Audition for singer/performers for immersive performance for ASN young people
Performance collective Snap-Elastic are looking for two male singer/performers, inclusive of trans and cis men, for Dussskk, a new immersive, interdisciplinary performance made with, and for, sound-seeking teenagers with additional support needs. The work will rehearse for four weeks in Glasgow and Edinburgh from September to October, with previews at The Studio at Festival Theatre in Edinburgh.
Conceptual, rather than narrative-driven, Dussskk follows the dramatic arc of a transformative journey from morning to night, as the sun moves across the sky and the moon rises. The piece brings together embodied singing and vocal experimentation, movement and sensory design to explore the difficult transitional periods that we experience during adolescence. The performers embody the sun, the stars, creatures in the night - shapeshifting beings who sing, move, facilitate play and hold a space that is full of trembling energy.
Co-directed by Claire Eliza Willoughby and Greg Sinclair, with design by Emma Bailey, Sound design by Rob Willoughby and Choreography by Aby Watson, the piece will be developed with input from young people in ASN schools and units across Scotland.
Featuring 5 performers, we are currently looking for two male performers to join the cast:
1 x bass/baritone/low voice
1 x tenor/mid-range voice
JOB REQUIREMENTS
You do not have to be trained or read music. If you have a specific vocal practice or style (for example scream singing; cabaret; or throat singing), then we are very interested to hear from you.
The performance space will be designed to allow audience members the freedom to move around. They will also be encouraged to join in with the singing and movement, and leave and enter the space as they please. As such, we are looking for performers who enjoy improvisation, who feel confident using and experiencing physical touch as part of performance, and who are comfortable with unpredictability and change.

Professional-standard singing voice
Confident movers, experienced in physical improvisation
An interest in improvisation and play
Happy working with young people who may be unpredictable and move around / experiment with their voices.

ACCESS & SAFEGUARDING
Using Intensive Interaction as a key tool for the relationship between performers and audience members, we will be exploring physical touch and vibration. This will be carefully built within the team and we will be working with an access consultant to make sure that boundaries are clearly communicated and all touch is consensual.
As we are working closely with children and young people all performers will need to join the PVG scheme, take part in training with the NSPCC on child protection, and will be asked to always follow Snap-Elastic’s Safeguarding Procedures.
Snap-Elastic is committed to creating a diverse, inclusive, and accessible environment for all. We encourage individuals from all backgrounds, identities, and experiences to apply, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, age, sexual orientation, disability, neurodiversity, or socioeconomic status. If you require any access provisions during the audition process, please email Snap-Elastic producer Isy Sharman at isy@snap-elastic.com, and she will be happy to have a conversation about how to meet your needs.
